Glidewell Laboratories to Acquire Intraoral Scanner Manufacturer IOS Technologies, Inc

Acquisition Positions Glidewell as a Leading Provider of 3-D Digital Scanning Technology.

Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) August 03, 2012
Glidewell Laboratories, industry-leading provider of dental lab products and services, announced today the acquisition of San Diego-based IOS Technologies, Inc., manufacturer of the IOS FastScan® Digital Impression System. This “direct to digital” innovation provides dentists with a fast, accurate and easy-to-use intraoral scanning system for creating digital impressions. Glidewell’s new TS150 Chairside Mill, which features a 150,000 rpm spindle and small footprint, works with the digital impressions generated by the IOS FastScan to fabricate a full range of dental restorations. The combination of the two companies will enable Glidewell to provide a complete chairside restorative system.
“We have been working closely with Glidewell Laboratories since the inception of the IOS FastScan, and we are pleased to now be part of the Glidewell organization,” says Duane Durbin, co-founder of IOS Technologies.
IOS Technologies was founded in 2007 with the objective of bringing its proprietary intraoral scanning and digital impression technology to market. Later that year, Glidewell Laboratories entered into a joint venture agreement with the company, and in 2010 the two companies launched the IOS FastScan Digital Impression System. Since partnering with IOS Technologies in 2007, Glidewell has supported the company’s continued development of the IOS FastScan, as well as its marketing, sales and continuing education efforts.
The IOS FastScan leads the intraoral scanning industry in scanning accuracy and optical resolution. It features a lightweight, handheld intraoral camera that scans 40 mm of dentition per second, moving automatically so the operator doesn’t have to. Ego-motion image stabilization technology virtually eliminates hand-movement distortion, enabling the user to capture exceptional surface resolution and detail.
Glidewell Laboratories reports that since the intraoral scanning system’s release, thousands of restorations, including single-unit crowns, bridges, inlays and onlays, fabricated from IOS FastScan digital impressions have been successfully seated. A two-year clinical study conducted by IOS Technologies with local doctors also found that an overwhelming majority of patients rated the IOS FastScan experience as more comfortable than a conventional impression taken during the same appointment.
The acquisition of IOS Technologies, which is expected to close on or about Sept. 1, 2012, advances Glidewell’s commitment to providing affordable, quality dental solutions and technology that reduce the cost of dentistry so more patients can receive care. Dave Casper, who has more than two decades of dental industry experience gained from working at companies such as Nobel Biocare, GE and Sybron Dental Specialties, will assume the role of president of IOS Technologies.
“This acquisition is a perfect strategic fit because with the introduction of the TS150 Chairside Mill it brings together all the components for a complete chairside restorative system under one roof,” says Glidewell Laboratories Chief Operating Officer Greg Minzenmayer.
