Pre-Fetching - with Pre-fetching, Tellcast is able to queue up all streaming videos in advance.  The result of this is a broadcast that looks more like traditional TV as opposed to a web stream (like from YouTube).  Tellcast has done away with video buffering so when a slide loads, the video instantaneously plays.  Your customers will never know you're streaming through the internet.

Autoloading - One annoyance to our clients was the need to login with a user name and password every time you start Tellcast.  With Tellcast 2.0 you can set to automatically log in to the software when you open your browser.  By simply logging into your portal and flipping a switch, the software will automatically start up and run with no intervention from you or even an input device attached to your computer hardware.


Tellcast BRIX - In order to take advantage of the new features, Tellcast has had to develop customized computer hardware that can handle these new requirements.  What this means is, if you are currently running Tellcast on a Google TV you will NOT be able to take advantage of these advanced and exciting features.  The new features are only compatible with:
  • Tellcast BRIX
  • Windows PC
  • MAC 
  • Linux
If you are currently running Tellcast on either of the mentioned platforms, you will automatically be upgraded to Tellcast 2.0!

Furthermore, the Tellcast BRIX is developed in such a way that it is plug and play.  All you have to do is plug it in and the box will do the rest.  Even if you lose power in your office, when the power comes back on the BRIX will automatically start up and start running Tellcast again without you doing a single thing. Fabrication of crown restoration retrofitting to existing clasps using CAD/CAM: Fitness accuracy and retentive force

 

Abstract

Purpose

A crown restoration engaged by a clasp as an abutment tooth for a removable partial denture (RPD) occasionally might be removed and eliminated due to secondary caries or apical lesions. However, if the RPD is clinically acceptable without any problems and refabricating the RPD is not recommended, the new crown must be made to retrofit to the existing clasp of the RPD.
This in vitro study evaluated the conventional and CAD/CAM procedures for retrofitting crown restorations to the existing clasps by measuring the fitness accuracy and the retentive forces.

Methods

The crown restoration on #44 was fabricated with CP titanium and zirconium on the plaster model with #45 and #46 teeth missing to retrofit to the existing clasp using conventional thin coping and CAD/CAM procedures. The gap distance between the clasp (tip, shoulder, and rest regions) and the fabricated crown was measured using silicone impression material. The retentive force of the clasp was also measured, using an autograph at a crosshead speed of 50 mm/min. The obtained data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA/Tukey's multiple comparison test (α = 0.05).

Results

The CAD/CAM procedure caused significantly smaller gap distances in all of the clasp regions, as compared to the conventional procedure (p < 0.05). The retentive force of the CAD/CAM crown was significantly higher than for the conventional one (p < 0.05).

Conclusion

When a crown restoration must be remade to retrofit an existing clasp, CAD/CAM fabrication can be recommended so that both appropriate fitness and retentive force are obtained.

AAP: Periodontal Disease Most Prevalent Among Ethnic Minorities



New Data from the CDC Reinforce High Rates in Hispanic, Black, and Asian Adults in the US

CHICAGO (February 18, 2015)—Sixty-three percent of Hispanic adults in the United States has periodontitis, an advanced form of periodontal disease. This finding comes from an updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study published in the Journal of Periodontology.

The study, titled “Update on Prevalence of Periodontitis in Adults in the United States: NHANES 2009-2012,” also reports that Non-Hispanic Blacks have a 59 percent prevalence rate of periodontitis, followed by Asian-American adults with a prevalence rate of 50 percent. Regarding age groups, periodontal disease is present in 68 percent of US adults age 65 and over. Additionally, the study confirms early contentions that approximately half of all U.S. adults age 30 and over—64.7 million Americans—suffer from periodontitis. 

This data emerges from the CDC’s and the American Academy of Periodontology’s (AAP’s) collaboration on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a program designed to assess the health and nutritional status of adults and children in the United States. The study is based on full-mouth periodontal examination data collected as part of the 2009-2012 NHANES surveillance. Previous prevalence estimates relied on NHANES data collected from 2009 through 2010.

According to CDC epidemiologist and lead study author Paul Eke, PhD, MPH, “The updated findings verify a high burden of periodontitis in the US adult population. Public health programs that aim to prevent and control periodontitis are needed to improve the overall health of our adult population.”

“Periodontal disease remains a significant public health issue for people of all backgrounds,” said Joan Otomo-Corgel, DDS, MPH, President of the AAP and a practicing periodontist in Los Angeles. “However, with proper treatment and care from a periodontist, periodontal disease is often reversible. A full-mouth periodontal evaluation is the most accurate way to assess for disease. These findings support the need for all adults age 30 and over to receive an annual comprehensive periodontal evaluation from their dental professional to identify and treat periodontal disease as needed.”

The AAP encourages all adults to undergo a yearly comprehensive periodontal evaluation to assess their periodontal disease risk and to treat disease if it is present. AAP guidelines indicate that the evaluations are to include both probing depth and attachment loss measurements.

ePrescriptions Coming Soon for Curve Hero

Good news! Curve Dental has selected a marvelous, highly experienced company to provide you with the ability to electronically send your prescriptions to any pharmacy. What's more, this capability will be integrated with Curve Hero, so you can write and send a prescription with just a few clicks of the mouse.

For our New York doctors, this functionality--as well as controlled substance ePrescribing capabilities (EPCS)--will be available before the Internet System for Tracking Over Prescribing Law (I-STOP) deadline of March 27, 2015. 

For those doctors in states that require specific requirements, such as printing formats, this new integration will resolve the current requirements as well as any future legislation. This service is available for US doctors only.

Integrated ePrescribe requires an additional fee per provider. Curve Dental has been able to negotiate a favorable rate for our customers: the monthly fee is $35 per provider. EPCS capabilities require an additional one-time fee of $100 per provider to cover the cost of the token (each provider writing EPCS prescriptions requires a token). 

All Curve Dental customers who register to use the service can do so with our compliments until May 1, 2015--send prescriptions for free for a limited time! If you're interested in ePrescriptions, the sooner you register the more you'll save. The service is sold on a month-to-month contract, but a 30-day notice is required if you need to discontinue the service.

Carestream Dental’s CS 3000 milling machine has earned certification from VITA to work with the company’s VITA ENAMIC® hybrid dental ceramic, which combines the benefits of dental ceramics with those of composite materials.
Carestream Dental’s CS 3000 milling machine was officially launched as part of the CS Solutions CAD/CAM restoration portfolio. The milling machine features a four-axis brushless motor that produces high-quality restorations with ±25 µm accuracy. The unit’s compact design and quiet, vibration-free milling allow practitioners to use the machine anywhere, even chairside.
Additionally, the CS 3000’s sturdy construction provides high torsion-resistance with minimum deviation for precise milling, even after years of use. The average milling time for a crown with the CS 3000 is less than 15 minutes, allowing practitioners to mill aesthetic, anatomically accurate restorations in a single appointment.

The brave new world of dental technology: all the trends at the International Dental Show 2015

At a high level: progress for dentists – analogue and digital production alternatives – innovative methods and materials for the laboratory – a focal topic at IDS
 

Good teamwork between the practice and the laboratory is an important prerequisite for complex implant and prosthetics treatments. The dental technician, as a materials specialist, makes his specialist knowledge and experience available to the dentist. Faced with rapidly changing manufacturing methods, it is helpful if dentists are accompanied and competently advised by their materials specialists from the start and throughout their treatment planning. The varied work of dental technicians supports the dental industry with numerous new developments: innovative CAD/CAM software, optimised materials for these, analogue or digital manufacturing options, modern labour management and much more - in short: dental technology is on the rise. The "state of the art" in dental technology is best exhibited by the International Dental Show (IDS), which will take place from 10-14 March 2015 in Cologne.

It is above all digital technology that is changing the dental laboratory today: modern CAD/CAM-supported manufacturing processes dominate daily life in dental technology. In combination with materials optimised for this, digital procedures increase the precision of prosthetic and implant structures – requiring only a short time and low costs. For example, the production of ceramic crown and bridge frameworks using CAD/CAM-supported milling technology has caused the use of traditional casting processes to decline noticeably. This change is accompanied by extremely high-performing ceramic materials such as zirconium oxide or lithium silicates, which guarantee excellent aesthetic results and at the same time highly durable dental products. Digital processes are also suitable for processing metal alloys: many precious and non-precious metal alloys can be processed excellently using milling technology; in addition, techniques such as wet grinding of cobalt-chrome sinter alloys or, as an external service, the selective laser melting procedure, are playing an increasingly important role.

However, progress in the area of traditional analogue production procedures is by no means finished. Casting technology still takes on a central role in many laboratories – this applies for the processing of high gold content alloys as well as for non-precious metals. In addition, highly-developed electroplating technology is available for the materials-efficient production of gold fillings. Alongside gold, titanium is another particularly biocompatible material that can also be processed using soldering-free joining techniques. And for aesthetic, tooth-coloured veneers in the layering and press-on techniques, there are now complete systems of stains, enamels and dentine materials available. In the future, dental technicians will be able to choose from analogue production methods and a range of suitable materials for the production of high-quality prosthetics – which can be seen in advance at the coming IDS trade fair in Cologne.

Soon, the nearly universally applicable 3D printing of long-term, stable, high-performance composites and composite materials will emerge as the latest dental development in addition to the classic casting technology as well as the modern machining processes. For this, no great investment is necessarily required on the part of the laboratory, because the dental industry also provides the possibility of central order processing.

Dental technicians are increasingly involved in decisions about method selection and the creation of complex implant and prosthetics (supra-) structures. The dental industry supports this development in particular, every two years, with the world's largest trade fair in the sector, IDS Cologne. In addition to more than 2,150 exhibitors in an area of 150.000 m², this must-attend event for dentists and dental technicians also offers an extensive supporting programme including numerous product presentations and lectures.

Records Set at OSAP Boot Camp

The Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) has reported that its 2015 Infection Control “Boot Camp” set records for attendance, speakers, content, and exhibitors. The annual OSAP Boot Camp is a core educational course covering all the basics in infection prevention and safety. This year’s boot camp was held January 12-14, 2015 in Atlanta, GA, a site chosen for its proximity to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Nearly 400 people attended the 2015 OSAP Boot Camp, a substantial increase over the 250-275 average attendance in recent years. A new format for the meeting was well received by the attendees. “The presentations were fantastic but what was even more impressive was the open forum allowing the audience to ask questions, said Mike Smurr of Patterson Dental. “It was impressive how every speaker was able to answer questions off-the-cuff and provide such insight and clarity.”
There were also more exhibiting companies at the event, showcasing the latest infection control products and services. “I was exhausted from the amount of traffic I had at the booth,” said Michael B Heffernan of Halyard Health. “I gave out and also have sent out a ton of samples to folks showing huge interest in our infection control products.”
This year’s conference took advantage of the Atlanta location by featuring several CDC epidemiologists and a special CDC-oriented event. On Monday evening Dr. Harold Jaffe, a CDC scientist who participated in CDC’s early AIDS investigations, hosted a screening and discussion of “And the Band Played On,” a television movie about the early days of the AIDS epidemic. OSAP recently opened a new office in Atlanta, to provide easier access to CDC’s resources.
The OSAP Boot Camp is a crucial building block for every dental professional with infection control responsibilities in both the civilian and military sectors. “The very positive feedback that we received from the Army attendees to this year’s conference has already resulted in many requests to attend the 2016 boot camp,” said Dr. David Carr, DENCOM Infection Control Consultant. The 2016 OSAP Boot Camp will be held January 10-13 in Atlanta, GA.

Orascoptic EyeZoom in XV1 Frame

I have been addicted to magnification for doing dentistry for years. In fact I have been using 4.8X magnification for almost everything. The problem was the field of view. The tight field of view at 4.8X is not always what I needed. I had to compromise magnification for field of view. Not anymore!!!


The new EyeZoom from Orascoptic allows me to go from 3 to 4 to 5X zoom in the same surgical loupes. So now I can easily just dial in the correct magnification for the procedure by rotating the dial on the magnification portion of the loupes.

Add in the cordless convenience of the XV1 integrated illumination system and I have found the best way to treat my patients. Beautiful materials for aesthetic restorations – eye-catchers at IDS 2015

Our teeth play a significant part in our appearance and our radiant smile. They affect our self-esteem and influence our social contacts. In dentistry, therefore, – in addition to restoring the masticatory function – the aesthetic restoration result is also an important criterion for the success of treatment. And some patients even look for a dental practice office specifically because they are unhappy with the aesthetics of their teeth. Materials for aesthetic dentistry and dental prosthetics will be presented at IDS 2015, with many restoration examples – they are real eye-catchers at the world's largest leading dental trade fair.

"Cosmetic dentistry and dental aesthetics are of great importance to many people. Because after all, clean and healthy teeth are a crucial part of an attractive appearance. IDS will demonstrate the kind of aesthetic results that can be achieved with plastics and ceramics for the restorative and prosthetic dentistry", says Dr. Martin Rickert, Chairman of the Association of German Dental Manufacturers.

Minor corrections of dental aesthetics can be done chairside by the dentist with filling composites. To do this, the material is applied to the tooth surface in thin layers and polymerised with light. Its ability to transmit light means it is also able to match the colours of adjacent teeth, thereby achieving a high aesthetic effect. And using either a glass, ceramic or quartz particle embedded in a plastic matrix, a high abrasion resistance is ensured. In addition, further possibilities are now available for chairside CAD/CAM production, which include fully anatomical single tooth restorations as well as bridges and abutments.

Laboratory based – labside – aesthetic rehabilitation of misaligned teeth or tooth defects can be done, for example, with labial or tabletop veneers. They are attached in front of the teeth (on the labial surfaces) or on the occlusal surfaces. For this the dentist only needs to prepare the teeth minimally or non-invasively and can record their shape with an intraoral scanner or impression material. On the basis of these working documents, in the dental laboratory, the veneers are layered with ceramic materials to a thickness of up to one millimetre. Even CAD/CAM-supported production is possible: virtually designed and cut from a ceramic block. The tooth-shaded colouring is done with ceramic staining.

For more extensive restorations that can only be accomplished by crowns and short-spanned bridges, the ceramic materials lithium disilicate (LS2) and zirkon-stabilised lithium silicate (ZLS) have recently become more established in the production of aesthetic restorations. And what is more, these restorations are produced using a CAD/CAM system – the materials are processed by grinding machines.

For crowns, long-spanned bridge restorations or custom implant abutments, the high strength opaque zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) – processed in digitally-controlled milling machines – has proven itself as a ceramic scaffold material for over ten years. Currently, the translucent ZrO2 modifications are dominating the market. These allow the tooth colour to be reproduced from the scaffold depth. And even the multi-layer moulds, in which the various levels of translucency merge into one another, represent a good option for this reason.

The ceramic materials LS2, ZLS and ZrO2 are mainly used for scaffolds, where the tooth shading of the partially-anatomical areas are veneered in further working steps: ceramic layering or the overpress technique. In addition to the classic veneers used for this, bleach masses are now increasingly in demand: thanks to their very bright tooth colour it is possible to obtain a very youthful radiance. And even gum masses for representing the red-white aesthetics are an important part of the veneering ceramic range: with these any receding gingiva is increased and reproduced in its correct shade. And dark stumps, implant interfaces or transitions can also be masked with them.

In addition to the partially partially-anatomical veneering scaffold, the indication form of monolithic restorations has been established. For this, crowns or bridges are fully anatomically designed with a CAD system and ground or milled with a CAM system. The reproduction of the tooth colour is done with staining colouring. This restoration version is being increasingly used, especially in the posterior region, where a deeper colour brilliance is less important. This technique is both time-saving and economical as crowns or scaffolds are produced in just one working process. And the application of the staining colour is faster than when layering the veneer ceramic. In addition, dental technicians save themselves some trouble.

The aesthetic materials also include veneering materials. They have recovered their position in the market by being able to offer a quality which is just as good as that of ceramics. For example, using ceramic fillers that are embedded in a polymer matrix allows for a high level of homogeneity and abrasion resistance. As a result of this, it is not even possible to differentiate between some plastic veneering and ceramic veneering in terms of brilliance and their similarly high durability.

BrushyBall, LLC Launches Kickstarter Campaign to Improve Children’s Dental Health




Funds Will Be Used to Manufacture and Market
the Innovative and Educational BrushyBall Tooth Brush Training Toy

Birmingham, MI – February 4, 2014 – BrushyBall LLC today launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the manufacturing and marketing of its innovative and educational tooth brush training coach for children. Kickstarter is a global crowdfunding platform based in the United States whose mission is to help bring creative projects and products to life.
The educational toy also named BrushyBall was developed by entrepreneur Robert Malen, who learned that singing toothbrushes with built-in timers did not teach his 4-year old daughter how to properly brush her teeth. “When I asked her if she brushed her teeth, she could truthfully answer yes because she brushed until the music stopped,” explained Malen. “However, when I watched her brush, I could plainly see she was only focusing on a few teeth.”
Malen set out to design a better product that would teach proper brushing technique in a fun way.  After five years of self-funded research and development, Malen produced the prototype for BrushyBall, a sink-top toy that uses a follow the leader sequence to demonstrate and encourage proper tooth brushing – Brushy Ball also serves as a convenient toothbrush holder. In fact, a recent study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control showed a disturbing uptick in the number of cavities among children aged 5 to 19 years old and within that group, the largest increase was in the 3 to 5 year old age group. We need to nip this trend in the bud, when children are first learning about oral hygiene and what better time to launch than February, which is National Children’s Dental Health Month.”
