Enhanced vision optimises treatment planning
“See what you used to feel”. The 3D Endo™ Software – jointly developed by Dentsply Sirona Endodontics and Dentsply Sirona Imaging – is the first software dedicated to endodontic treatment planning for more predictability. Using the 3D data and its intuitive visualization, the 3D Endo™ Software enables a practitioner to identify the specifics of a tooth root treatment, visualize the canal network in 3D and choose the right files from the built-in file database. This enhances endodontic treatment efficacy and reliability and is key to improving patient communication. A practitioner can explain the initial position and the respective treatment to the patient by using a planning report or even the software as a direct pipeline.

Some good news out of Washington for a change! MJ
The ADA has advocated for repeal of the 1945 McCarran-Ferguson Act antitrust exemption for the insurance industry for more than 20 years. The Association strongly supported H.R. 372, which was introduced Jan. 10 by Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., and would authorize the Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department to "enforce the federal antitrust laws against health insurance companies engaged in anticompetitive conduct."
"Today, a bipartisan majority in the House joined me in taking a historic step to begin rebuilding America's health care market," said Rep. Gosar, a dentist and ADA member. "As a dentist for over 25 years, I know first-hand that restoring the application of federal antitrust laws to the business of health insurance is the key to unlocking greater competition in the marketplace. Making health insurance companies compete in a free-market will result in huge benefits for hospitals, doctors and most importantly, patients."
"Free market competition leads to lower costs, greater innovation and variety in the insurance marketplace," said Dr. Gary Roberts, ADA president. "I have long appreciated Paul Gosar for his steadfast commitment to patient advocacy, and I thank him for his work on reforming the McCarran-Ferguson Act. Further, I want to thank every one of the 416 members of Congress who voted for H.R. 372 today."
This victory in the House caps a flurry of advocacy efforts by the ADA in 2017. On Feb. 16, the Association submitted written testimony to a House subcommittee hearing on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law, asking for support of the bill. That was followed by the Organized Dentistry Coalition's Feb. 27 letter to the House Judiciary Committee, which unanimously voted in favor of H.R. 372.
"History has always shown us that when we put the patient first and demand that health insurance companies compete for their business, premiums go down while quality improves," Rep. Gosar said. "I'm proud to have led this effort in the House and call on Senate leaders to take up this bipartisan legislation in a timely matter."

The Planmeca PlanMill® 30 S is a high-accuracy entry-level unit, which guarantees a professional entry to the world of CAD/CAM technology. The unit has been designed for the chairside fabrication of metal-free dental restorations and appliances.

Bensheim/Salzburg, March 22, 2017. The 4.2 version for the IDS is an update for the Sidexis 4 imaging software that primarily makes intraoral X-rays more convenient. Additional functions make the procedure even easier and faster, and also contribute to better communication with the patient. It begins with the X-ray imaging itself. With the "Exposure Advisor" feature, the software helps by directly assessing the illumination of the images and adjusting the parameters for future imaging if necessary. For this, a graphical LED strip displays whether the image is underexposed or overexposed. The dentist or assistant can thus check the quality of the image during imaging process. When the image has been created, the improved operating system ensures that even serial intraoral images can be interpreted reliably and quickly with the Xios XG Sensor – without needing to open a large number of windows or different menus. The dynamic sharpness control with settings that can be selected individually for up to five different diagnoses is also integrated seamlessly into Sidexis 4. For imaging carious lesions, these sharpness and contrast settings help in identifying the smallest defects. Brightness and darkness settings emphasize the anatomic structures more clearly and make the dentin-enamel junction easier to identify. This makes the handling and processing of single and serial intraoral images simpler and more versatile – even in retrospect.
Everything users need at a glance
"It is very important for us that users are able to find their way around the software quickly and that all of functions that support the corresponding workflow are directly available to users and optimized accordingly," said Dr. Nadia Amor, Senior Product Manager Imaging Systems at Dentsply Sirona. "We have developed new features and integrated the existing functions even better in order to further simplify operation."
In this way, images from any source can be imported more easily and the sessions can be saved and called up more conveniently as a summary of the current work results. In the patient history timeline, you can now filter by type of image and this means significant time saved when combined with the timeline.
There is also "Getting to know Sidexis 4," an integrated document for a quick overview that displays the software highlights clearly with many images, in particular for functions that are not immediately obvious but that provide real utility.
More options – also in 3D
Another important new feature is the expansion of the open interfaces that Sidexis 4 provides. The software can be integrated optimally into the practice and now also enables the import of 3D DICOM data from third-party suppliers. Such data can be used within the software in a variety of ways. Images the dentist selects from various sources can be displayed clearly in the light box. The new rendering makes all 3D images particularly vivid and offers ideal orientation for dentists and their patients. The "Compare" feature allows images to be displayed next to each other and synchronized for comparison – this is especially useful for treatment planning, monitoring results, and communicating with patients.
Intelligent networking of X-ray systems
The high-performance and user-friendly Sidexis 4 software connects all Dentsply Sirona X-ray units and treatment centers and combines them to provide an intelligently linked complete solution. Sidexis 4 can exchange patient data and images with all commonly used practice management software. Furthermore, X-ray data can be easily electronically transferred – at no great expense and with no loss of quality due to copying.

DFAB is a 3-D printer developed for general dentists and prosthodontists with the purpose of increasing the efficiency and reducing the number of procedures for the production of dental prostheses. It produces up to five-element bridges in less than 20 minutes. The innovation behind this is the Photoshade technology, a system that helps reproduce the shades of the patient’s teeth, giving the prosthesis a natural appearance.
Starting from an STL file, produced after an intra-oral scan, the user selects the shades of the restoration using the software. The colours can be selected from a range between A1 and A3.5 on the VITA scale (VITA Zahnfabrik); as a result, the finished product obtained is customized.
DFAB is an integrated system with disposable cartridges containing TEMPORIS, a Class IIa biocompatible material. Recent studies and tests on this material have shown mechanical strength values that are comparable to a well-established restorative resin material made of hybrid composite. The cartridges are ready to use and were developed to maintain the workplace hygiene, avoiding the risk of accidental contamination. The printer does not produce any noise or dust and does not require tooling.
DFAB has a minimal design that adds value to the dental clinic. It is available in desktop and chairside versions with a 7 in. touch-screen computer.
